WordCamp Video Highlight 2017/01/06

With the announcement from WordCamp Central about the Incubator Program in February of 2016 and then three locations being chosen for the program, I thought featuring videos from WordCamp Harare and WordCamp Denpasar would highlight the progress that these Communities have made.

Sizo Sinyolo: When Time Says No, WordPress Says Yes

Talk about pressure! Sizo was tasked with creating an E-commerce WordPress site and didn’t know anything about WordPress!

“I had never used WordPress until pressure mounted on me as an internship student , the company wanted the website up and running within a week.”

Presentation Slides can be seen HERE.

Wibowo Sulistio: Leveling up through Pro Bono dev work

“Pro bono work is fun and rewarding. It is also a great way to level up your WordPress prowess and reputation, either as a freelance developer or as part of a digital agency. When you give back to society, you receive back as much, if not more.”

WordPress Community Interview With Jeff Chandler and Marcus Couch

Jeff Chandler and Marcus Couch host the WordPress Weekly podcast, which covers all things WordPress. They also interview a variety people who make up the WordPress Community.

Marcus Couch has been a WordPress developer for more than 12 years. Besides being the co-host of WordPress Weekly, he is the cohost of the WordPress Plugins A-Z Podcast with John Overall. Marcus also helps people plan, develop and implement membership sites at Membership Site Coach.

Jeff Chandler launched WordPress Weekly in January of 2008. In that initial episode, Jeff talked about the release of WordPress 2.3.2 and running WordPress locally. He resides in Ohio and has been writing about WordPress since 2007 at the WPTavern. When he attends WordCamps, Jeff can mostly be found taking part in the Hallway Track.

We had a great time talking WordCamps and the WordPress Community.

I do need to apologize to Jeff and Marcus. This is the first time that I had two guest being interviewed. There are times where you can see that Marcus and Jeff’s face are blocked. I did not realize this happened until I was processing the video.

WordPress Community Interview With Thabo Tswana

You might call this post a Special Edition for the WordPress Community Interview Series. I felt the need to get this interview published quickly because of the message Thabo has for the Community.

Thabo Tswana is a web designer living in Harare, Zimbabwe. He states that “He has a hunger to constantly grow and evolve as a designer. He has a genuine passion for programming, technology and website security”.

Thabo was the lead organizer for WordCamp Harare, which was one of the three WordCamps chosen to take part in the WordCamp Incubator Program. The other two WordCamps took place in Denpasar, Indonesia and Medellín, Colombia.

The incubator program was unveiled in February of this year and the three locations were announced in May.

Hugh Lashbrooke, Andrea Middleton, Rocio Valdivia (among others) mentored Thabo and his team throughout the time leading up to WordCamp.

The team was encouraged to start a local WordPress Meetup group and hold regular meetings. They were tasked with finding a venue, setting a date, recruiting speakers, and spreading the word about the upcoming WordCamp.

The goal for the incubator events was to organize an easily reproducible, one-day, one-track event with about 50-75 attendees.

This interview is a bit longer than normal but it is well worth it!

WordCamp Video Highlight 2016/12/16

I have a confession to make. This first video is one that I have been keeping a look out for since it was done at WordCamp Ann Arbor 2016. I admit that I may have a jaundiced view point, kind of like – If I hit my finger with this 16 pound sledge hammer, it MAY hurt.

Kyle Maurer and Adam Silver: WP Battles – Hacker vs. Webmaster

Ladies and gentleman, its Cyber Shield (Adam Silver) versus Malwarious (Kyle Maurer), its good versus evil, cute cats and puppies versus mean people.

The Internet is a battleground. It’s true. Every minute of every day, a war is being fought.

https://wordpress.tv/2016/12/15/kyle-maurer-and-adam-silver-wp-battles-hacker-vs-webmaster/

This is actually the third WP Battle presentation these two have done. A rap battle was done at WordCamp Ann Arbor 2015 and then a political style debate at WordCamp NEO 2016.

Pippin Williamson: Answers by Pippin

I had the misfortune of presenting in the same time slot as Pippin at a WordCamp a couple of years ago. I had three people (two feel asleep) and he had a standing room only crowd. This video is from WordCamp US 2016.

Pippin will answer some of the questions he is asked most often in regard to plugin development, business, managing a team, life, and other subjects.

Anil and Aslam Multani started a company called Multidots in a rented apartment, two old computers, bad internet service and turned it into a company that now employs over 100 people worldwide and delivers professional web and mobile solutions.

At Multidots we have this engine which shows how these three “C” (Company, Clients and Crew) are connected and responsible. There are three entity in the business – Company, Clients, Crew (Employee)! We really need to align them well. It would not only help company to grow and get better success but would help client and employee to achieve their goals and satisfaction.
