WordPress Community Interview With Dave Loodts

Dave Loodts is a self employed WordPress designer/developer, SEO and marketing consultant at www.davel.be.

He is a big believer in giving back to the WordPress community and is the co-organizer of WordCamp Antwerp as well as WordPress Meetup groups in Antwerp and Hasselt. Dave also is the Global Translation Editor of nl_be team as well as the administrator for the WordPress Dutch Belgium website.

Dave and I discuss the recent efforts of the local team to translate WordPress into 100% Dutch. I certainly learned a lot about translating as Dave talked about how he made the request, first steps on getting the glossary created, items needing special attention. Also finding others to help to translate, organizing remote and physical meetings, etc. He was very appreciative of the help that Pascal Casier provided. Dave was also inspired by Francesca Morena and the Italian community where the translation efforts resulted in a fresh, more active and broader community.  That’s one of the main reasons that Dave decided to pick up the role as GTE.

After the video was recorded, Dave wanted to say a big thank you to Veerle Verbert:

“Veerle introduced me in 2013 to the WordPress community during the first WordCamp Europe. I was a ‘rookie’ and didn’t knew really anyone in the community.  So, Veerle was a key-figure for me, giving me this opportunity to connect and give back to the WordPress-community. Together we’ve organized over twenty meetups in Antwerp so far and had the first WordCamp ever in Belgium. So proud on that. So, Veerle: thank you! “

Near the end of the interview, I surprised Dave by asking about his photo beer blog and his passion for local beers. You can see this at daveloodts.wordpress.com.
