WordCamp Video Highlight 2016/09/26

This week we have two videos from two WordCamps. One for beginners and one for developers.

First up is Jerett Farmer and his presentation at WordCamp Los Angeles 2016 titled WordPress By A Dummy.

Jerett has some help from a special friend and the audience as he helps new users prepare for their first website.

“This presentation would be great for brand new or newish users who wants a brief over view of getting a secure and easy to administer site up with as little trouble as possible.”

WordPress Community Interview With Doc Pop

Doc Pop (not his real name) is a Jack of all trades, a musician, artist, dramatic yo-yoist, and video game designer-wizard. He does the weekly WordPress News Drop at Torque. These are one or two minute videos talking about news in the WordPress world. I had been watching these for several months and finally decided to take a chance and contacted Doc about doing this interview. I honestly don’t know why I worry about being refused. The response and positive feedback is amazing!

Doc talks about his work at Torque (which includes the Torque Toons), attending WordCamps and creating videos.

To say that I get pumped up when I do these interviews is an understatement. I always learn something new about this Community that we are involved in.

The Humanity Of WordPress – Rich Robinkoff

Rich Robinkoff “nails it” during his presentation titled The Humanity of WordPress!

Rich gave this presentation at WordCamp Columbus on August 27th and again at WordCamp Pittsburgh on September 17th. I was lucky enough to be in attendance in Pittsburgh.

He talks about human interactions and the fact that people may not realize the impact they might have on somebodies life in just a short conversation. Rich gives several examples of the relationships that can be built and the giving nature of the WordPress Community.

Please watch until the end as Rich talks about the contributions to the WordPress Community by #WPMOM.

WordPress Community Interview With Daniel J. Lewis

Daniel J. Lewis has a passion for podcasting and for helping others in their podcasting endeavors. It is easy to get caught up in his enthusiasm. I feel fortunate to have been able to chat with him for a few minutes.

I thought it might be interesting to interview somebody who uses WordPress to leverage their business.

He is an Internet entrepreneur, award-winning podcaster, podcast consultant and has been the keynote speaker at several conferences.

Near the end of the interview, Daniel discusses his search for a plugin to meet certain needs and the steps he used to find what he needed. It is worth listening to.

With Daniel being a professional, I was somewhat hesitant to interview him as I feel that I have a lot of room for improvement as far as my podcasting skills. But like all of the other interviews, he was eager to talk about his profession and was a gracious guest!

I do have to apologize for my appearance. It was 6:00 AM and I had not been in the shower yet.

WordPress Community Interview Series with Josepha Haden

I am very grateful to have been able to interview Josepha Haden this past Friday. This actually happened quickly and we were able to schedule a chat in just two days.

Joespha is an Automattician who is able to contribute to several area of the WordPress Community. She blogs at Stars And The Moon where she writes about a variety of subjects including food and Pepper.

She comes from a long line of writers and was challenged at a young age to be a life long learner.

At WordCamp US 2015, Josepha gave a presentation titled Communities and The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense which was based on a book written by her grandmother, Susan Haden Elgin. There are some very interesting concepts about communication skills and patterns which make a difference on how other people perceive you.

As with the other interviews I have recorded, I learned something new while talking with Josepha. Besides that, she is one of those people who always has a smile on her face and a kind word.

After the release of WordPress 4.6, Ahmad wrote:

WordPress Community Interview With Tammie Lister

I was lucky enough to interview Tammie Lister recently. She lives in southern England and is a Tuxateer at Automattic. Tammie is a member of the Theme Review Team as well as the Core and Design Teams. She was one of the organizers of WordCamp Brighton 2016.

“WordPress is created by more than core committers and more than one company.” A Tweet by Tammie early this year.

Tammie has several videos available on WordPress TV.

As has been the case since these interviews started, I came away with more knowledge about WordPress world and the people who contribute. In addition, Tammie taught me some British Slang!

Ace!

WordPress Community Interview With Petya Raykovska

I feel very fortunate to have been able to spend a few minutes interviewing Petya. I first contacted her in early May and we were finally able to get our schedules worked out a few days ago.

Petra is a native of Bulgaria and is currently employed by Human Made. She is a contributor to the Core, Community & Polyglots Teams and was one of the organizers for WordCamp Europe 2016.

She took a very active role in the Global WordPress Translation Day which was held on April 24th, 2016 and continued for 24 hours. A recap of the event can be found on the Polyglot P2 page here: Recap and Results. Also, videos of the event are available on WordPress TV.

On a side note, I am normally a very positive person. I try very hard to have a good attitude at work and at home. After Petya and I ended our Skype call, I found myself more upbeat than usual, a spring in my step and a song in my heart. Her excitement is very infectious!

Make sure to watch the video all the way through. I had a little surprise for Petya near the end!
