WordCamp Video Highlight 2018/07/13

The WordPress Community.

Unique, powerful, supportive, yes. But it can be so much more!

I have to admit that I have a soft spot for inspiring stories/videos. Here are two recent videos about the WordPress Community.

Joe A. Simpson Jr. : 90 Days – Finding Your Place in the WordPress Community

I set out to become more mindful of the things that bring me positive energy including truly engaging in the Community — 4 WordCamps, 16+ WordPress Meetups, and Events, designed a Wapuu, and a website build/brand to give back.

And finally, on a more personal note. I recorded this video after attending WordCamp Ann Arbor two years ago. I took my son, Michael along with me. Mike is 35 years old and mentally challenged. He enjoys going to WordCamps and meeting new people. Simply put……

This Is Why I love The WordPress Community

WordCamp Video Highlight 2018/03/23

This week I thought I would mix it up a little and highlight a variety of videos.

Zack Katz: The Future of WordPress

At WordCamp Denver 2017, Zack talked about both the history and the future of WordPress.

Sharon Ernst: 8 Ways to Keep Blogging Workshop

Sharon asks: Is your blog neglected and out-of-date? Is it at the bottom of your to-do list so never gets the attention it deserves? That makes you normal! Consistently blogging challenges most of us because we’re busy with so many other tasks. Let’s fix that. This presentation was given at WordCamp Seattle 2017.

Felix Arntz: Contributing to WordPress Core

This talk from WordCamp Noord – Nederland 2018 addresses what comes next when contributing to core: How do you spend your contributing time efficiently? How do you find access to developer groups? How do you make your ideas heard?

WordCamp Video Highlight 2017/02/17

There are a lot of great stories out there in WordPress Land! Ever since I was a kid (long, long ago in a land far away), I have had an interest in life stories. If you do a search for “life” on the WordPress TV website, you will find several videos available for viewing.

Jeff Matson: How the WordPress Community Changed My Life

I had the pleasure of sitting in on Jeff’s presentation at WordCamp Kent 2016 and a few months later, interviewed him for WordPress TV. Jeff talks about his accidental fall into the WordPress community, how it has changed both his personal and professional life forever (and has the cool tattoo to prove it).

Ricky Blacker: How WordPress Changed My Life!

This video comes to us from WordCamp Sydney 2016. Ricky tells his story of how he became involved with WordPress, the WordPress community and also how attending WordCamp Sydney 2014 changed my life.

He gives examples of how giving back to WordPress can be beneficial in many ways, and also hopefully inspire those just embarking on their WordPress journey to follow their dreams.

WordPress Community Interview With Krystal O’Connor

Krystal O’Connor lives near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and works at Libsyn, which is a podcasting hosting service. Libsyn has over 2.6 billion downloads and hosts over 25,000 shows with 44 million monthly audience members. Krystal provides technical support, writes and maintains the Libsyn Knowledge Base, produces the video tutorials, manages the Libsyn Tutor YouTube channel, and co-hosts Libsyn Live.

She spoke at WordCamp Pittsburgh 2016 with a presentation titled WordPress + Podcasting.

Many podcasters turn to WordPress to help build the website that will be the landing page for their podcast show, but did you know there were themes, plugins, and best practices geared directly toward marrying your podcast and your WordPress site?

Krystal is very active in the podcasting community and Podcamp Pittsburgh.

Krystal blogs at https://www.krystaloconnor.com. If you read her About Page, Krystal states that “We were the first house in the neighborhood with a computer (one of the IBM PC’s), and I distinctly remember installing a hard drive into the computer when I was about 7. That’s when I got my start in the tech world, right there on my grandparent’s den floor.”

We talk about podcasting in general, procasters versus podcasters,  audio versus video among other things.

WordCamp Video Highlight 2016/11/18

The videos highlighted this week are geared towards getting young people involved in WordPress, blogging and programming.

As the grandfather of a 9 year old granddaughter, I find myself  talking with her parents discussing technology, internet safety, security, blogging, programming, etc.

I would love to chat with someone who is involved in a program for kids. This is something that I have on my “To Do” list for the WordPress Community Interview Series. If you know of someone or would like to chat about the it, please leave a comment!

The first video is from WordCamp Cape Town 2015. There is a local program called Code 4 Cape Town that encourages young women to become involved in technology to create a greater diversity in the South African tech industry.

Emma Dicks: Code For Cape Town

The next video comes from WordCamp Orange County 2016. It is a fact that that children are using gadgets at an earlier age every year. Tabitha talks about getting kids involved in WordPress.

Tabitha Chapman: Kids and WordPress

Presentation slides can be seen HERE.
